Call on the Department of the Interior to open new areas for offshore drilling!

Make your voice heard. The Department of Interior is holding a comment period on its latest 5-year plan. Tell them you're ready for more access to offshore resources of oil and natural gas!

Dear Secretary Salazar:

While the industry is eager to get back to work by exploring and producing the oil and natural gas America demands, I am discouraged by the recently released five-year offshore plan. The plan is an important first step, but it does not go far enough.

By keeping the Atlantic, Pacific and most of the Eastern Gulf of Mexico off limits, we risk missing the opportunity to develop new and potentially significant resources of oil and natural gas. The development of these resources could provide hundreds of thousands of new jobs, more than $300 billion in government revenue, and nearly 4 million barrels of oil and natural gas production.

This is economic growth and energy development that we cannot ignore. I encourage you to finalize the 2012-2017 5-year OCS leasing plan as soon as possible so that industry can continue to lease and develop offshore resources for the benefit of our country. In addition, you should begin work immediately to develop a new 5-year leasing plan that would include the Pacific, Atlantic, and the remainder of the Eastern Gulf of Mexico.
